One of the most important, and sometimes the most challenging, tasks of any mother is how to make ordinary moments special--
like backing out of the driveway.
For years now, as we leave our home to head somewhere, I usually say the same words:
"Goodbye, beautiful red house that we love!" (Or gray house, or brick house, or wonderful house--you get the point.)
And when we return we say hello again!
You may be living in a home where you find this hard to speak out--where you don't love it, or even like it--where you're struggling as a mom or as a family. I understand this completely.
If that's your situation, may I encourage you to say it anyway.
Sometimes we have to see beyond our current reality. Gratitude opens doors, changing us, changing our perspective, and often enabling a way for us to even change our actual circumstances.
It all starts with the words we speak.
Our children are listening.
"We don't cultivate the habit of gratitude so we can get more of something. We cultivate it because we just can't keep from noticing the depth of beauty that surrounds us.
It is everywhere, if we view the world through grateful lenses."
