Hubbie: "Hi! (Kiss.) How was your day?"
Mom 1: "Ugh. You won't believe it. Joseph screamed for 15 minutes this morning because he couldn't find his paper airplane from yesterday--a paper airplane, can you believe it?!"
Hubbie: "Wow, that doesn't sound fun."
Mom 1: "Yes, and that's just the start of it. The washing machine leaked water on the basement floor again, AND we couldn't go outside because it was such a rainy day.
Then Mark banged his head on the kitchen counter and got a huge bruise. Oh, and Sarah colored with markers on the wall."
Hubbie: "I think I'll go out with the guys later."

How TO Greet Your Husband at the End of the Day
Hubbie: "Hi! (Kiss.) How was your day?"
Mom 2: (Kiss back and weary smile.) "I LOVE a challenge!" --Steve and I have a variety of "code phrases" we use to let the other know it's been a difficult day, but without starting down a negative, unpleasant rabbit trail list of all our day's complaints.
Hubbie: "Uh-oh."
Mom 2: "Yes, but the kids really loved cutting out leaves from construction paper, and we did that since we couldn't go out in the rain. Mark offered to share one of his leaves with Joseph, since he's faster at cutting.
AND Sarah actually said sorry without any prompting about coloring on the walls. Then she helped me scrub it off."
Hubbie: "That's really good. Well, I'll take a look at the washing machine tonight to take care of that leak. And after the kids are in bed let's watch a movie together."
