Do you know what truly refreshes you?
Why is that?
It's because we confuse relaxation and refreshment.
It's important that we relax, put our feet up and turn our brains off for a little while. But it's just as important that we take time to be refreshed. Relaxation allows our body and our mind to recuperate from a long, draining day. It lets the stress out.
Refreshment, on the other hand, fills us up, inspires us, brings out our creativity, and recharges us for another day. It makes us feel energized.
My challenge to you today is to discover what truly refreshes you. My guess is that the answer won't be tv or, as I turn my finger back towards myself, the Internet. Monitoring other people's lives, whether real or imaginary, will rarely refresh our own.Often the things that refresh us most are activities that make time move a little more slowly.
- Sitting on a park bench in the sunshine enjoying nature
- Hiking on wooded trails
- Going for a run
- Going for a walk
- Listening, really listening to good music
- Just finding a spot to be completely alone
- Having coffee with a friend
- Going for a drive in the country
- Taking a nap
- Taking a bubble bath
- Working out at the gym
- Curling up with a journal and a warm drink
As you make your list of refreshing activities, find the most simple ones and begin to think of ways to work them into your weekly or even daily schedule.
Far too often, moms go from one weary day to the next. We don't get personal days, sick days or vacation days, so we need to be intentional about the free time we do have and make sure we use it well.
