Another birthday party?! Thankfully, I kept my resolution and didn't feel any of the stress that was present at the last one. Ah, the beauty of lowered expectations! Definitely my favorite Martin party to date.
So, without further ado, meet - my 6 year old! Doesn't she look beautiful?!
Here, toward the end of the party, Trishna wanted to show her lifebook to a friend (also adopted from India). The book chronicles her adoption journey to our family. The girls laughed and giggled as they looked and pointed. On the last page, there was a photo of Trishna as an infant in the orphanage. I mentioned what a cute baby she was.
Trishna looked suddenly serious. She said, "This Trishna wants to come home. She was very sad."
From my experience, it seems that the desire for family is built into the heart of a child. When Trishna was in India, she had plenty of food, peers to play with, and people who cared for her. But somehow she knows that a family is better.
That, in spite of the struggles, a family is right.
Well, my little girl, you are home now.
For good.
