My husband serves as Director of Operations for Love146, an organization working toward the abolition of child-sex trafficking and exploitation. Today was a big day, as a one-of-a-kind safehome opened in the Philippines. Here girls rescued from abuse will find hope, healing, and restoration.
For the three years this project has been in the making, Steve and I have involved our children in the process as much as possible. They know that when Daddy has to travel to the Philippines, we are playing a small role in ending child slavery.
The Love146 staff celebrated the safehome's opening with a picnic at a local park. We showed Trishna, Jonathan, and Elijah photos of the round home's opening ceremony - it's special to share this passion with our little people.
When we, as mothers, share the causes close to our hearts it helps children believe that it is possible to make a difference in the midst of extreme need - it is possible to change the world.
Please take a few minutes to watch this video describing the safehome (find out why it's round!) and what will happen there. I realized as I watched it that what the Director of Aftercare is describing for these child survivors is exactly what I hope my own four walls will be for my children - a place of safety, learning, and freedom.
A place called home.
