A few months ago I wrote about my favorite spot in our house. That got me thinking about my least favorite spot - my filing area.
I would love for it to look like this:

But truthfully it's more like this:

Well, not exactly. But close. Here it is:
We bought this filing cabinet from a yard sale almost ten years ago, and spray painted it purple because....(I can't quite remember why, but I'm sure we had a good reason).
Now it's overflowing, but when does a mother of three have motivation or time to weed out what's no longer needed? It's not at the top of the priority list. So currently I pile new items to-be-filed on top of the cabinet. I haven't filed anything for months. I just try not to look in that direction.
I recognize there must be a better system, but I need something that works for me and is low-maintenance.
Here are a few options that come to mind:
A. JUST DO IT. Make time to weed out old documents, then discipline myself to put away each piece of paper the first time I have my hands on it.

B. DON'T DO IT. Accept that it's just not a season of life for organized files, shrug off the mommy guilt, and patiently sift through my growing pile when I need to find something.
C. A HAPPY MEDIUM. Buy a portable filing container (like the one shown above). Keep it at my desk and use it for my ten most common filing categories. Any document not in the "Top 10" can be piled as usual.
D. OTHER. Any ideas? I'm more than open for suggestions.
So, I'm taking a poll. Would you vote for A, B, C, or D?
