As you can see, I have a diverse, international family. Steve and I waited six years into our marriage to have children. But we made up for lost time by adding all three of our children in less than three years!
Our family represents four nations: USA (Mommy & Jonathan), England (Daddy), Liberia (Elijah), and India (Trishna).
Jonathan was the
first child to join our family, as our biological son in 2004. He is
currently a rowdy 5-year-old with a compassionate heart and a fierce
loyalty to both his family and garbage trucks.
In 2005, Elijah
joined our family when he was six-months-old via an international
adoption from Liberia, West Africa. He had a rocky start, battling
malaria and intestinal parasites when I arrived home with him.
But he's
a fighter, and there couldn't be a healthier 4-year-old on the
planet now. Elijah has an old man's soul in a little person's body and
loves all things ball-related.
Trishna is our oldest child, at 6 years of age, but came to our family just two years ago from an
orphanage in India (where she spent the first four years of her
life).
We are still getting to know our beautiful daughter, as her personality unfolds and she learns what it means to have a family.
So there they are - 22 months separates all three in age from oldest to youngest. This is why the current goal in our house is what I like to call "managed chaos." Our life is beautifully busy and challenging all at the same time.
Steve and I like to remind ourselves, no matter what's going on, that "it doesn't get any better than this." Motherhood has stretched me in ways no previous profession ever had, and right now, there's nothing else I'd rather be doing.
