Anne of Green Gables - This was my first time reading Anne since I've had kids, and love, love love! Some stories have new lessons for us each time we read them. I'm also looking forward to watching the miniseries, which I haven't seen in decades! (I read this myself, not with the kids...yet. Still hoping to make it to Prince Edward Island one of these days!)
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe - My kids have been begging me to start reading Narnia for ages. I thought they might be too young for it, but we finished The Magician's Nephew a few days ago and yesterday alone made it through seven chapters of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe!
In Grandma's Attic - We've had this book on the shelf for ages, but only recently picked it up to read together. What a joy! Think Little House on the Prairie with a moral message/lesson in each chapter. I added all four books to our collection because we enjoyed them so much.
Little Pilgrim's Progress - I stumbled across this at a used book store and thought it might be a good introduction to the story of Pilgrim's Progress. Trishna and Elijah eventually lost interest in it, so it's become a book Jonathan and I are working our way through together. I'm becoming very accustomed to the words, "One more chapter, PLEASE!!" I make him pay me in kisses to continue reading.
Helen Keller - I became interested in learning more about Helen Keller's life after reading a picture book to the kids about her. So I downloaded The Story of My Life to my Kindle. Fascinating to read about her upbringing, education, and younger life. Completely inspiring!
The Christian's Secret to a Happy Life - I remember seeing this classic on my mom's shelf growing up, and I'm reading it for the second time. A beautiful picture of how the Christian life should truly be: worry-free, peaceful, lived in trust.
Our 24 Family Ways - This Christian devotional has become a part of our home culture. Every two weeks we study a new family way (principle by which we want to live together as a family). The book comes with coloring sheets you can copy--my kids love these!
“Look at that sea, girls--all silver and shadow and vision of things not seen. We couldn't enjoy its loveliness any more if we had
millions of dollars and ropes of diamonds.”
~ L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
