Have you ever found that when you neglect to master a life lesson the first time, it has a way of repeating itself?
I certainly have, and I'm in the middle of my repeat course right now.
I find myself coming down from a very busy, stressful three months or so. Somehow there has always been more to do than time to do it, and somehow I bought into the idea that a "really good" wife and mother needs to "efficiently" use each and every moment of the day.
It came on so gradually, that before I knew it I was operating at an unhealthy pace.
Life is good to us--it just won't let us keep that up for too long. Life has a way of getting our attention, harshly when necessary.
Sometimes it seems that everything starts crumbling down.
That has happened to me now--in the form of chronic health problems, unusual feelings of stress, and three little people wondering what has happened to their steady mom.
I'll share more later this week about the steps I'm taking to get through this challenging season, but today I want to share with you my newest top priority.
It's not cleaning, cooking, or organizing. It's not even playing with my kids.
My new priority is SITTING.
It is so good to sit. I'd forgotten the luxury of it. So these days, as soon as any essential task is taken care of, I'm right back to sitting.
There's an art to sitting, I've learned. You can sit and read, sit on the floor and play, sit and snuggle someone, sit and stare.
All this sitting is good for the soul.
Over the past week or so, since I've undertaken my new priority, my house is dirtier and less organized. But you know what? I'm starting to remember just how good my life is again, just how good it is to rest and not rush.
I encourage you, especially during this busy holiday season--purposefully make room in your schedule for at least one sitting day.
Sitting doesn't represent laziness. Done intentionally, it represents preservation. A burnt-out mother just is not good for the family. (Believe me!)
So will you join me?
Take a lesson from this recovering mama--and find a comfy chair to sink down into today.
Make it a priority.
